RTX Network Systems has delivered public wireless solutions for telephony and data to Mexican fixed line operator Marcatel during the last 1-2 years, where Marcatel has deployed the system in the Northern region of Mexico.

 

The RTX wireless solution is being used to offer end users wireless telephony services as well as wireless broadband data as their fixed line subscription. The system has in Mexico been proven to be a unique solution for this kind of operation and services – it is very fast to deploy and very easy to offer the public services with very fast provisioning time (from the subscriber orders the service until they are online with services). The system has also proven to be highly efficient to operate and maintain with almost no in-field maintenance. During one of the hurricanes in the Northern Mexico, the RTX wireless systems was the only public service that was still able to operate after both traditional fixed line services as well as GSM services went down for a while, so it is obvious how elegant and efficient a very strong a robust solution can be deployed. All these parameters are crucial for a fixed line operator business, which obviously is dependent on the availability of the services under all environmental and weather conditions.

 

Based on the successful deployment in the Northern region, the co-operation has now been extended, in order for Marcatel to deliver wireless telephony and data services in other regions in Mexico as well. The first step towards this extension is to deploy another 5 cities with RTX wireless network solutions, which is ongoing until commercial launch by the end of the year.

 

Both companies are excited about the use of the RTX technology in Mexico, and the next step for the deployment with Marcatel is to expand the system to another 95 cities. In order to secure the right deployment speed and the right business perspective of such expansion, the Danish Export Credit fund has been involved to initiate the right financing setup. Once the financing and all the local preparations with interconnect agreements, authorizations from local communities etc is in place, it is planned to initiate the deployment expansion by early next year keeping RTX busy with this exciting opportunity the coming 2-3 years forward.
