Introduce Internet Telephony with a Short Time Revenue Loss

Internet TelephonyThe flexible VoIP platform
When designing the VoIP platform, RTX has focused a lot of attention on a flexible architecture. Making it flexible enough to accommodate a wide range of customer projects and applications has been pivotal in the design considerations. Not only the VoIP engine itself but also the application software controlling the Man Machine Interface (MMI) has been implemented with this in mind. Here, RTX has implemented a software engine for rapid and efficient development of the MMI, enabling RTX to easily design a new MMI with the look and feel that the customer might require in a product. The hardware core of the RTX SIP solution is based on the Blackfin processor 531 from ADI. This processor - together with memory and a LAN chip - provides RTX with a very powerful VoIP platform with the necessary processing power to implement different voice codec standards used with VoIP. At the same time, it pro-vides ample flexibility to add on the features that make the RTX solution different and stronger than most competing solutions on the market. This applies, for example, to the wide band audio and the superb audio quality in general.

Manufacturing support
An important aspect of any electronic design is the ability to manufacture it in the optimum and safest way. RTX therefore involves the customer’s manu-facturing site in the design phase as part of any custom product development. This way, we can ensure that the optimum components are selected for the product and at the same time that the product, can be easily moved from the development phase and into high volume production.

Testing and validation
Testing and validation of today’s cordless telephone designs with very complex and rich feature sets require a good and reliable testing capability. To control the testing process, RTX therefore uses an Internet-based tracking tool where the customer can directly enter any bugs found in the telephone and monitor the status of the bug-fixing process. This is an important management tool for tracking bugs and making sure that the customer ultimately receives a product which is up to the high standard characteristic of all RTX designs. Making a good telephone takes more than software testing. The product also has to have features like optimum range and acoustic performance. At RTX, this is ensured by always being up to date with the latest equipment and having the facilities required to perform testing under all conditions. Therefore, RTX has invested in a 4 by 6 meter fully equipped and automated antenna measurement room.
