The IP DECT base stations are the units providing DECT coverage in a given outdoor area. The IP DECT base stations connect subscriber units, such as DECT handsets, Wireless Stationary Phones or Wireless Telephone Line Extender Units. Each IP DECT base station can handle 11 simultaneous connections. Approximate coverage range is 300 meter line-of-sight by using the built-in omni-directional antennas. Alternatively up to 1 km by usage of the other built-in directional patch antenna or even up to 8 km to an outdoor DECT repeater. The IP DECT base station is expandable with WLAN cards (802.11g) to establish Wi-Fi hotspots and provide dual mode operation with DECT and WLAN in the same unit. The IP DECT base station can be supplied with the WLAN card included.
The IP DECT base station is connected to the Wireless IP Network System via either a 10/100 Mbit Ethernet connection for short-range connections or a VDSL connection for long-range connections. The IP DECT base station is a 12-slot DECT base station designed for outdoor deployment of a Wireless IP Network System. The power for the IP DECT base station is carried over the same cable as that used for signalling. The connection from the IP DECT base station to the VDSL sync unit is established with 2 sets of twisted-pair wires.
A radio tower can host multiple IP DECT base stations each covering a radio sector and thus providing DECT coverage for one DECT cell using the built-in 10 dB gain directional antennas. If required, external antennas can be used. The IP DECT base station contains voice codec’s G.711, G.726 and optional G.729 codec.
