Key Features:
- 2 high speed (Gb/s) Ethernet port
- Cable delay measurements
- Capabilities for multiple unit operation (Sync Unit or Sync/Switch Unit)
- GPS controlled precise timed synchronisation
The VDSL Sync unit provides together with a third party 24 port VDSL modem, an interface between the IP network and the base stations. The VDSL Sync unit provides power feed and synchronization information for the base stations over two twisted pairs over a distance of up to 1.5km. The synchronization is based on a global GPS timing reference. The VDSL Sync unit is intended for mounting in an outdoor cabinet with a controlled environment.
The timing reference is based on the GPS system. An external GPS antenna must be connected. In cases where a number of VDSL Sync units are deployed in the same outdoor cabinet, they can be linked together through synchronization ports on the rear. This means that only one of the units needs to receive a GPS signal. If redundancy is required, 2 of the units that are linked together must receive a GPS signal. If the GPS antennas are not functional at all, e.g. when they are blocked from receiving GPS signals, an internal timing reference will keep all the VDSL Sync unit in the outdoor cabinet at a common local reference timing. The VDSL Sync unit provides synchronization signals to all connected base stations to obtain slot, frame, and multi-frame synchronization. This is required in order to provide DECT intercell handover and to maximize DECT system capacity. The VDSL Sync unit converts the -48V supply voltage from an external standard power supply to –72V to allow power feed for the base stations over long cables.
