Build tomorrow’s innovative products today
Our long track record with big companies like Panasonic and Ericsson emphasises the fact that we are highly respected for our solutions. Our core platforms build upon solid experience and they are designed to be very flexible and cost optimised; the platforms can easily be tailored to a specific application area (e.g. voice, streaming audio, or gaming). This is possible due to access to state-of-the-art technology through partnerships with key chipset suppliers and our broad knowledge base. On the back of this newsletter you will find an outline of the RTX puzzle; this is a complete overview of our offering – visualising our supported technologies and core platforms, our engineering services (i.e. the “Pick your piece(s)” concept), and some of our engineering skills.
Do you need a unique wireless product?
It is becoming increasingly difficult to bring unique products to the market. The total effort required to develop a new innovative product is increasing due to higher product complexity and the need to have access to a broader knowledge base. In many cases, partial or complete outsourcing of the product development phase is required in order to reach a narrow market window, as it may otherwise be impossible to build the required knowledge base in time. Our offering is directly targeted at this vertical market situation, hence acknowledging flexibility, trust, and time-to-market as key elements to successful product implementation and introduction. Furthermore, RTX Telecom A/S has many years of experience in designing wireless products and has launched more than 200 cordless telephone designs with high audio quality for major brand name manufacturers all over the world. We are experts in building advanced wireless products, and our platforms have proven very flexible. Consequently, we can tweak the platforms to meet very special requirements, which can make your particular product unique, thereby dramatically increasing its value. Our platform portfolio includes the following four programmes:
Cellular technology platforms
RTX Telecom A/S has been involved in the development of various cellular technologies and we have a very competitive TD-SCDMA platform. Furthermore, we have a very flexible GSM/GPRS M2M platform, which is based on a chipset from Texas Instruments. It has successfully been used in a number of different solutions; one of these is the Nesa SmartReadTM product mentioned earlier in this newsletter, but also car alarms and other surveillance equipment with built-in camera and GPS features have been based on this platform. The main advantage of this platform over simple GSM/GPRS modules on the market
is that customer applications can easily be fully embedded, providing the possibility of assembling all the customer’s functionality in one chip.
Cordless & local network technology platforms
The cordless area is at the heart of our business. We are experienced in developing cordless products, and this has triggered us to develop two very flexible DECT platforms; the Cordless ROM Kit (CRK) and the Cordless Voice Module (CVM). These two platforms come in two versions; a DECT version and a 2.4 GHz version. Furthermore, we have developed a number of IEEE 802.11a/b/g based solutions.
Personal network technology platforms
RTX Telecom A/S has a very long track record within development of Bluetooth headsets for GN Netcom among others. We have developed a complete Bluetooth platform consisting of our own Bluetooth 1.2 qualified host controller core with a complete host stack and a number of core profiles. However, we also maintain a very close relationship with leading Bluetooth
chip manufacturers, one of whom is Cambridge Silicon Radio (CSR), and we have developed a number of solutions based on their successful BlueCore chip family, including both normal mono headsets and high quality stereo headsets.
Internet technology centric platforms
Our platforms in this category are based on both new and existing building blocks. The most important platform in this category is our flexible VoIP platform, which builds upon our deep know-how within DECT. The platform comes in two versions; a SIPv2-based and a Skype-based version. The VoIP platform is very flexible and can easily be built into network equipment like routers and cable modems.
All platforms are RoHS-compliant and can be used as plug-and-play. However, the flexibility of the platforms makes it easy to tailor them to specific applications; you can either do this yourself or hire our wireless experts to help you reach your market window in time. It is important to stress here that we are not limited to the technologies outlined above; we are able to develop a wide range of wireless solutions thanks to our access to comprehensive in-house lab facilities along with a large team of highly motivated and experienced wireless engineers.
RTX Telecom A/S is a one-stop-shop for advanced wireless product development
Our flexible co-operation model makes it possible for customers to select the exact items they need from our offering. Our extensive experience within development of advanced wireless products enables us to manage the complete development process. Furthermore, we also have access to the following in-house equipment and lab facilities:
EMC lab
The EMC lab consists of an electromagnetic anechoic chamber (i.e. a radiation free room) equipped with state-of-the-art measuring equipment from Rohde & Schwartz and Agilent. Here we can measure electromagnetic radiation, and furthermore, we have the possibility of performing a complete EMC type approval in-house. The anechoic chamber can also be used for antenna measurements of for example radiation patterns. We use the EMC lab in both the design of new antennas and in the fine tuning of antennas in a system design.
Acoustics lab
The acoustics lab consists of an acoustic anechoic chamber (i.e. a room isolated from external sound sources) equipped with state-of-the-art measuring equipment from Brüel & Kjær. In this lab we are able to perform mechanical as well as electricalmeasurements.
ESD/EMC lab
The ESD/EMC test lab consists of various equipment including surge/burst generators. In this lab, we are able to perform complete ESD/EMC approvals, and measure both conducted and radiated immunity against RF interference.
Pick & place machine
With the pick & place machine we are able to mount SMD components on PCBs in-house to make working prototypes fast, but we are also able to set-up a production line in situations where only a small number of devices are to be produced and packaged.
