In the course of this summer, RTX Telecom has been focusing on supplying cellularcustomers with an additional path to implementing their particular cellular solution. As a result, we are able to assist in the mechanical aspects of handset design, in addition to providing both software and hardware development. We can now provide customers with a suite of manufacturing software - known as CMS - that deals with the ordering procedures, production testing, logistics and after-sales service.

Mechanical design solution

In cellular manufacturing, we have registered a growing demand for complete turnkey solutions, due to market pressure that insists on many concurrent design variants combined with rapid product life cycles.

So we teamed up with one of the world’s leading mechanical designers – Vertical pre-production management GmbH in Austria - in order to benefit from their specialist skills. The result is that we can now provide our customers with complete turnkey product solutions.

The customer can choose between a full range of pre-defined handset designs or an individually designed handset. If the preference is for individual designs, RTX Telecom and Vertical work in close collaboration with the customer to secure the best possible solution, in a way that involves the minimum burden on the customer’s time and resources. Cellular Manufacturing Solution

The RTX Telecom "Cellular ManufacturingSolution" (CMS) supplements our cellular design services by making it faster and easier to set up the ordering, manufacture and logistics associated with volume production. CMS is a suite of specially designed software that gives the customer one single tool for dealing with

• resource planning.

• product calibration and testing.

• product configuration.

• packing.

• label printing.

• supervisory control.

• data collection.

• product repair.

CMS is extremely versatile and can be configured efficiently and effectively for use in cellular manufacturing facilities of any size.

Resource planning

Resource planning is an ERP system that integrates seamlessly with Navision systems, but is also possible to customise to fit or align in with other ERP solutions. The system has all specifications required for production test and packing pre-installed and of cause aligned with customers requirements.

Product calibration and testing

The production calibration and testing feature is a Windows-based test platform that includes the production calibration and test algorithms recommended for cellular handsets. It is a highly versatile tool that can conduct the necessary tests/calibrations in four different ways:

• calibration and test on PCB level.

• dial-up test of the phone once assembled.

• calibration of the phone once assembled.

• auto alignment of test station by using golden units as reference.

Packing & Product Configuration

Packing is a tool for downloading the customer's configuration and software and providing the required labelling of gift boxes, cartons and pallets, as well as all the necessary shipping details. All products related information will be collected for the individual customer throughout packing in order to provide SIM unlock codes and shipping details.

Label printing

The labelling system provides PCB and IMEI label printouts. Each PCB on the production line has a unique PCB number and each complete unit a unique IMEI number. These unique numbers can be printed both as text and barcodes.

Supervisory control

The supervisory system monitors production line status and production statistics in real time and vital for getting a general view in large production environments.

Data collection

Oracle database system with complete table structure and stored procedures optimised for high volume production. Comes along with additional functionality for back-up and the export of test results.

Product repair

RTX Telecom also provides additional functionality to meet the needs of service and distribution centres, with the following add-ons:

• automatic retrieval of all relevant information for a given product - such as test specifications, calibration data, parts lists, component layouts etc. - via the Internet. This makes repair work much easier and more cost effective.

• partial Internet access to the production database, which enables the customer to confirm whether or not a faulty unit is within the warranty period.

Web-based ordering tools

The product repair tool is a special database for repair and error suggestion retrieval. The error suggestion retrieval feature provides a guide that helps the operator with fault-finding. The contents of the database are generated in the customer's own facility during the pre-production phase, thus ensuring the necessary customisation.
