Advanced communication solutions for remote solutions for reading power meters
for remote reading of power meters
Smart ReadTM makes it possible to detect leaks on the spot
RTX has developed an advanced wireless meter for a Danish electricity supplier, NESA A/S. The plan is to install the pro-duct in 550,000 homes before 2010.
SMS as the transmitter technology
The Smart Read is a module which communicates with NESA via GSM/GPRS and uses SMS as the transmitter techno-logy. If the supply of electricity is interrupted, an SMS will be sent to a website where NESA and the consumer can -monitor the problem.
A clearer view of electricity consumption
Remote reading meters will provide a clearer, more transparent view of elec-tricity consumption, because it will be possible to monitor consumption instantly via mobile phone or the Internet. -Normally suppliers charge customers based on -estimated consumption, so it can come as a shock for the customer when the real annual consumption figure arrives.
Substantial savings for the electricity supplier
Remote reading meters will save the -electricity supplier on the cost of manually reading the meters, and enable better production planning. In addition to this, the European Union is expected to issue a requirement that all electrical meters should be remote. NESA is leading the way.
